I am a fully qualified English to German translator with 12 years’ experience, a native German speaker with native-level command of English, a Member of the North West Translators' Network and Career Affiliate of the Institute of Translation and Interpreting.

Commended for the 2015 Stephen Spender Prize for poetry in translation

Originally I am from Innsbruck in Austria, a pretty city surrounded by majestic mountains.

Eager to find out what's beyond those mountains I moved to Vienna to study. It was almost without thinking that I chose a language degree: I loved English and I was greatly interested in languages, travel and foreign cultures in general.

Having completed my studies, I met this lovely lad from the North-East of England and I jumped at the opportunity of moving abroad with him. We first set up home in South-Shields, where I enrolled at the South Tyneside College and studied for the Diploma in Public Service Interpreting (DPSI)

I successfully passed the exam, gaining a distinction in both the English to German and the German to English translation tasks, and became a Registered Public Service Interpreter in June 2006.

In October of the same year I started working full-time as a translator and interpreter, trading as GermanEnglish Language Services.

I have interpreted in court, for the police, in job centres, for the council, for private companies and individuals and gained valuable experience in dealing with different settings and situations and applying the pertaining register and vocabulary.

However, as there is not much need for German interpreting in Northern England, I decided to focus solely on translating.

In January 2009 I took the exam for the Diploma in Translation and passed all three papers at the first attempt. My special topics were Business and Law.

I now offer translation, proofreading and editing services on a wide range of legal, commercial and technical documents, business correspondence, contracts, certificates, questionnaires, manuals, brochures, travel guides and tourist information.

My first book translation, "The Infinity Pool" by Jessica Norrie, a thrilling holiday read, was puplished in June 2018, as "Der Infinity-Pool, Urlaub im Jetzt"

The lovely lad mentioned earlier is now my husband and I have taught him passable Tyrolean. We have settled in the North-West of England, in beautiful Chester, but go back to Austria on a regular basis. I have fourteen years' experience of the English way of life and I can say with confidence that I am as much at home in English as I am in German.
