NWTN Boost Your Communication Day

On 2 February I attended a full day of presentations and networking held by the North West Translators' Network at the YHA in Manchester.

We had four fantastic speakers sharing their expertise on how to communicate better using the phone, e-mail and the internet.

First up was Heidi Kerschl with her talk on Effective communication by e-mail and telephone, explaining how we could turn any contact with existing and potential work providers and colleagues into a marketing opportunity.

Next we had Valeria Aliperta, all the way from London. Her very lively and inspiring presentation was entitled: "What's in a name - branding and effective marketing: How to give your business communications the right look and send the right message"

After lunch we continued with The Do's and Dont's of Social Media marketing. Katarzyna Slobodzian-Taylor helped us answer the following questions: Should you do it? How does it work? and How can you get it right?, focussing on Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn.

Our final speaker of the day was Vernon Blackmore of Science Capital. He delivered a very engaging presentation on How to optimise your web presence and How to get the most out of your website.

The day was rounded off by a Question and Answer session and lively discussions.

Frankfurt Bookfair

From 10 - 14 October I attended the Bookfair in Frankfurt, listening to interesting talks, watching informative presentations and participating in engaging discussions.

My personal highlight was the "Gläserne Übersetzer", where you could watch somebody translate a crime novel live and ask them questions and/or make suggestions. Very enlightening!

Insurance terminology workshop

Last Saturday, 31 March 2012, I took part in a workshop on legal insurance terminology.

The workshop was led by Sue Leschen, a ahighly experienced and qualified solicitor and Public Service Interpreter.

There was a lively discussion going on and we all had a chance to refresh our memoriers, confirm what we already knew and gain new insights into this (sometimes tricky) legal field.

See my  Certficate of Attendance, which includes additional information on the topics covered.
